Aspinity’s CEO wanted a demo platform for showing off Aspinity’s AML100 technology at conferences, trade shows, potential investor meetings, etc. The two main requirements were that (1) the device should be able to last for 12+ months on a single CR123A battery and (2) the device should be eye-catching–aesthetically pleasing enough to pique someone’s interest quickly. To create visual interest, instead of using an external battery enclosure connected by wires, I decided to feature the battery prominently. I designed the rest of the board to look like a product hanging on a store shelf (with hang tab and all).
In addition to the AML100, the board also features a microphone, power measurement circuitry and a bluetooth SoC (STM32WB) for remote alerting.
Lastly, I designed and 3D printed a magnetic mounting plate for the board.
This hardware was at the forefront and was largely responsible for our Series B funding.
