Cloud Space: Global Exhibit | Mountain View, CA

Premise

Google wanted a space to show off its Google Cloud Platform cloud computing services to enterprise customers so the company opened its Cloud Space Customer Experience Center. The space features various exhibits that prospective clients can interact with to learn more about Google’s offerings.

Global Exhibit is an nine-foot tall, free-standing globe that shows off the world-wide locations of Google’s data centers. A user can manipulate the globe in real time by selecting locations on a touchscreen map. The actual globe tilts and rotates to present the user with the location selected.

My Role

I designed motor control and sensor algorithms used in homing and tilting/rotating the globe to target locations. I wrote code in node.js to communicate between the front end and the motor controllers as well as to and from various sensors. I also designed and installed all power distribution and safety feature wiring, including a 3-phase to single-phase conversion panel.
